In 2011 the island of Sark was nominated as the world’s first Dark Sky Island. There are no cars, and very few streetlights on this small island in the English Channel so there is very little light pollution. It is accessible by boat from the neighbouring Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey, where the only bit of light pollution actually comes from when observing the stars at night. I was asked by the New York Times Magazine in 2016 if there was a journey I’d like to go on – I’d never been to Sark before. This series of images depicts the few days I had there, and the journey across from England.
