Troms Fjord, Norway

This image was made during a commission for the New York Times in 2017, where I was retracing the steps of Jan Baalsrud, a folk hero and WW2 commando of the Norwegian resistance.
Baalsrud led a task force of 12 to the Norwegian Fjords by fishing vessel during the Nazi occupation. They were rumbled, all arrested and executed apart from Jan, who evaded capture by the occupying forces for two months in extreme weather conditions – suffering frostbite and snow blindness. He was helped across this fjord during an escape and dragged up the mountains on a sled by local villagers who risked their lives to help him escape the country.
The weather conditions for me were considerably better.
