Lynton Goat, Devon, UK
Jon Tonks
10×10″ Signed Pigment Print (Edition of 25)
Lynton & Lynmouth in Devon is home to a herd of feral goats who graze the Valley of Rocks close by. Their legacy goes back so far they are referenced in the Domesday Book. In modern times they have created tension between villagers, becoming a nuisance by eating flowers in front gardens and the local cemetery. Some want the goats protected, some want them culled. I was just keen for them to stand still as I chased them up a rock.
This photograph was made during a commission for the Guardian Weekend Magazine, illustrating this parochial tale back in 2017.
