Creux Harbour, Sark

In 2011 the island of Sark was nominated as the world’s first Dark Sky Island. Enya wrote an album about it. There are no cars, and very few streetlights on this small island in the English Channel, therefore very little light pollution. It is accessible by boat from the neighbouring Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey, where the only bit of light pollution actually comes from when observing the stars at night.
In 2016 I was delighted to be asked by the New York Times Magazine if there was a journey I’d like to go on, and I’d never been to Sark before. I documented my trip from England to the island on boats and planes, observed the night sky and met a few of the islanders who resided there.
